SPEAKING
Understanding What’s Happening Underneath
Trish Morris, MA, RP
Speaker on Mental Health, Relationships and Faith
Some experiences are difficult to explain. We know that life feels heavier, a relationship feels more distant, or something within us is struggling—but we cannot always understand why.
I speak about the emotional experiences, relationship patterns, and questions of faith that often remain beneath the surface, helping people find greater understanding, practical direction, and hope.
My Heart for Our Churches
My heart has always been with our churches. Church is where people come together not only to worship, but also to build relationships, support one another, and walk alongside each other through the ordinary and difficult seasons of life.
When mental-health and relationship understanding is brought into that already supportive community, it can strengthen the care that is taking place every day. People gain language for what they are experiencing, families and couples can understand one another more clearly, and pastors and church leaders are better supported as they care for the people in their congregation.
Pastors have often told me that my work has helped their churches become healthier, which has also made their role a little easier. That matters to me. I want to come alongside churches and contribute professional understanding that supports the care, connection, and ministry already happening within them.
My heart is to help people wherever they are, and I want to bring what I know into our churches so that more people can receive understanding and support within a community they already know and trust.
What Are the People in Your Church Carrying?
Every church community is different. Some are seeing people overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, grief, or exhaustion. Others are concerned about marriages under strain, families struggling to stay connected, or people whose emotional pain has begun to affect their faith.

Mental health, relationships, and faith do not exist in separate boxes. Emotional struggles affect the way we relate to the people we love. Relationship pain can influence how we see ourselves and God. Faith can become an important source of strength while also raising difficult questions when life does not unfold as we hoped.

A presentation can focus on one of these areas or bring them together around what the people in your church are experiencing.
Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing
A mental-health conversation can help people understand experiences such as anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, loneliness, loss of purpose, or carrying too much for too long. It can also help people recognize when they may need additional support and how a caring community can respond.
Relationships and Connection
A relationship conversation can help people understand what happens beneath recurring conflict, anger, defensiveness, silence, and emotional distance. The focus is not simply on communicating better, but on recognizing the deeper pattern and beginning to create greater safety and connection.
Faith and Real Life
A faith-centred conversation can explore what happens when pain, disappointment, depression, relationship struggles, or unanswered prayer affect the way we experience God. These talks draw from Scripture and real life without pretending that genuine faith makes every struggle simple.

Professional Experience. Personal Understanding.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working with individuals and couples. I hold a graduate degree in marriage and family therapy, and my professional experience also includes business ownership, nonprofit leadership, education and writing.
Â
My understanding of mental health and faith is personal as well as professional. I know what it is like to experience serious illness, depression, loss of hope, anger with God, and the gradual journey back to Him. Those experiences influence how I speak about difficult parts of life—with respect for their complexity and without pretending that pain can always be resolved with a simple answer.
 Where I Have Spoken
Over the years, I have been invited to speak at churches, ministry programs, community organizations, professional gatherings, and women’s events. These opportunities have allowed me to speak with people in many different seasons of life and to approach meaningful subjects in ways that are thoughtful, understandable, and relevant to the people in the room.
